This porcelain bottle is created (thrown) on a pottery wheel.  Height: 22cm  Width: 12cm

The crystalline glaze is made from a combination of powered materials which are weighed, mixed with water and put through a fine sieve. Colours are added during the mixing, in the form of mineral oxides such as copper oxide.

The crystals grow from a combination of the raw materials in the glaze as well as the controlled heating and cooling cycle of the kiln.  This means that all crystals form randomly and each piece is a unique work of art.  

I have no control over crystal size, placement or shape, which makes each kiln unload an exciting adventure.
